Experts know the model designation E87 (you know, the “87 model”), but I wasn’t familiar with it until recently. This year, we wanted to make a few technical upgrades to our kiosk. One of those upgrades involves using gas struts to automatically open all the windows, as if by magic!
Unlike in 2024, we wanted to replace the temporary batten structure with something more solid and reliable.

I snagged a bunch of E87 gas struts through classifieds, with 350 and 400N ratings. That’s more than enough for all the windows, and they work like a charm with the right mounting brackets!
The only really annoying part was installing and aligning the window at the right angles and the perfect height. But through a bit of trial and error, we managed to get it sorted pretty well!

In addition to the E87s, we’ve also installed new gas struts with 100nm of force. The smaller ones are just right for lighter hatches and doors.
