In the project "Tree PONG I" we built an interactive sound sculpture that invites interaction and sonic experimentation.
For our project „Tree PONG I" we wanted to build a growing sound sculpture that invites interaction and sonic experimentation. The fundamental building blocks of the sculpture consist of two larger metal frames that we had left over from building the Kiosk – they were originally a greenhouse. We only planned the instrument on-site, packing just a few basic materials with us.
The idea kept coming up for us to build an instrument in Messestadt that uses wind primarily to generate sound. There are many open spaces in the neighborhood and, ultimately, a lot of wind. An artwork in Messestadt titled „Löwenspinne” thus becomes (perhaps also by chance?) a sound installation as soon as the wind whistles through the sculpture's cables...
However, for our sculpture, we have first set this aspect of sound generation aside and worked with strings, a contact microphone, and wood and metal parts.
One workshop participant had the grandiose idea of attaching a cable tie to a bit holder from a cordless screwdriver to pluck the strings quickly and repetitively. Sonically, this was interesting and had a lovely connection to the construction-oriented context of our project.
Through the use of sticks, a contact microphone, and a small amp, an extremely wide range of sonic nuances could be generated during play, and as hoped, the instrument was played diligently time and time again. In the future, we will continue to develop the instrument and record even more performances.

In the Südpark quarter in Obersendling, we built flying objects and UFOs together with Raumfragen.
With the Baby-Kiosk, we can develop and implement spontaneous actions on short notice without much planning effort. Our first edition of Strick≈Cornern at Rindermarkt is one such action.
