DER BERG von googlehausen

DER BERG – in cooperation with the Munich Biennale

Recently, in collaboration with the Münchener Biennale we built the growing sound sculpture DER BERG. Based on a basic construction with two mountain peaks, in 4 days on the Rainer-Werner-Fassbinder-Platz an interactive and playable object was created from the Music Theatre Festival's store of materials and props. On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, we pulled from the fundus all those objects that already tell a story or have told one, and recontextualised them in a (sound) collage. Our goal was to build, play, try out and experiment together at BERG.

With the help of the found objects from the archive and our tools we aimed to make the mountain ring with simple means and keep the threshold for participation as low as possible for everyone. The only electronic components were piezo microphones and two small battery-powered amplifiers. This allowed sounds from one side of the mountain to be heard on the other and decoupled from the direct sound producer.

Quick and dirty, various objects were tested for their sonic or aesthetic quality and attached at BERG to enrich the acoustic sphere of the otherwise austere Platz vor der Freiheitshalle with dadaist, dull, exciting and comic sounds.
