Recently, in collaboration with the Münchener Biennale, we built the growing sound sculpture DER BERG. Based on a basic structure with two mountain peaks, in 4 days on Rainer-Werner-Fassbinder-Platz we created an accessible and playable object from the stock of materials and props of the music theatre festival. To mark its 20th anniversary, we pulled from the stock all those objects that already tell a story or have told one, and recontextualized them in a (sound) collage. Our aim was to build, play, try out, and experiment together at the BERG.
Am Wochenende geht's in die BERGE
Mithilfe der Found Objects aus dem Archiv und unserer Tools wollten wir den Berg mit einfachen Mitteln zum Klingen bringen und die Schwelle für eine Beteiligung aller möglichst niedrig halten. Die einzigen elektronischen Komponenten waren Piezo-Mikrofone und zwei kleine, batteriebetriebene Verstärker. Dadurch konnten Sounds von einer Seite des Bergs auf der anderen hörbar gemacht und vom direkten Klangerzeuger entkoppelt werden.
Quick and dirty, various objects were examined for their sonic or aesthetic quality and affixed to the BERG in order to enrich the acoustic sphere of the otherwise sober space in front of the Freiheitshalle with Dadaist, dull, exciting, and comical sounds.
