On May 1st, we built the first prototypes for a folding stool. The goal: foldable, simply constructed, and individually adaptable—an anti-design classic for DIY enthusiasts.
On May 1st, we were guests in the courtyard of Nachbarschaftswerk Wagnis and built the first prototypes for a folding stool. The goal: it must be foldable, simply constructed, and individually adaptable, so that not everyone just recreates our grandiose design, but can design their own stool instead.
The result is a stool that can be folded up like an accordion, with a board resting on top. This also makes it easy to store away, e.g., in Kiosk PONG.
This method of construction can lead to obscure designs, turning the stool into an anti-design classic; only the construction principle is prescribed here, while design, dimensions, and wood preferences can be determined by those building the stool—which we think is wonderful and leads to truly individual stools.
The functionality of the stool is a bit hit-or-miss; balancing on the stool is, in any case, both encouraged and necessary.
You can build it using all sorts of scraps and paint it however you like. To cut the stool top to size, we first assemble the legs with the hinges. Then, we place the legs on a board and trace the corresponding shape onto it with a pencil.
The board is then cut to size, resulting in a (ideally) perfectly fitting stool top… It's a bit tricky to explain, but you can probably see it in the photos.
Of course, it's great if all the legs are roughly the same length. We sawed them down to size at the end…
In the Südpark quarter in Obersendling, we built flying objects and UFOs together with Raumfragen.
At the end of the school year, we returned to the Platz der Menschenrechte with Kiosk PONG — this time at PONG-Beach under the pine trees.
